It’s about time. After working on the project for a while myself, we hired on two additional coders a few months ago to kick-start development of Prosperity and have now reached a point (at version 0.5) where we want to start getting input from people on the project.

Quicken for Mac has been a real problem of mine for years and it’s always been a dream to get rid of it on the Mac. It does little useful for anyone and it’s a codebase that hasn’t been truly updated in a decade. It has some useful features but, in general, it’s old and done.

By no means will the first version of Prosperity replace it for everyone. I’m not crazy enough to promise that. But I’d like to hope that enough people will give us some feedback on the direction we’re taking to really flesh out the idea and make a real Mac-like finance app that people will use. It seems the main reason people stick with Quicken is the online downloads bit for certain banks, so we worked to include that in our product as well so that people wouldn’t miss it too much. And, hopefully, we’ll get some more banks on-board with this in the future. More about that later, though, because OFX is a big topic.

We have a lot to do still, and we know it. So if you want to help out with testing we’d love to have you. Hit the Prosperity page and click on the sign up button to get started. We’ll update everyone on that mailing list here soon when we have a good version to send out.
