There's a Future After All

We have a great idea for a program. I mean, that’s how it starts, right? Some guys get together (usually drunkenly) and holler about how if they had enough money to quit their jobs and write this super program that they’d take over the world and put Gates in his place, or somesuch drunken nonsense.

It’s funny how luck comes at you, sometimes, as that’s what happened.

Many years ago I was using a program that I absolutely hated and vowed to rewrite it when I had the chance. Years went by, it went by without updates and there was nothing better. I forgot about it.

Life went on and I got a different job and made a life for myself and so forth. You know the drill. Then, one day, a friend came to me and said: “If you could do anything you wanted, what would it be?” So I relayed my tale of that crappy program I wanted done right. Well, it turns out he knew a man who has a lot of investments, and now we’re one of those.

Hi there.

Barton Springs Software at WWDC

We arrived in San Francisco for WWDC on Sunday morning. I never really appreciated the video iPod until trapped on an Airbus from Austin to San Francisco for three hours.

Good Eats

In the general vicinity of Union Square and the Moscone Center, there’s a ton of good food from names you know and love. The food court at The Metreon has some great fare. However, I’m love hole-in-the-wall joints, and there’s plenty of that around. My favorite joint so far, Lori’s Diner, has two locations within walking distance of our hotel.

Well, that was insane.

So we have this über-secret project we’re working on, right? Something big and crazy and world-changing and all that stuff. I could go on but, well, no, I can’t. We have a date set in the semi-distant future for that and it’ll come. But one night while I’m working on that, or something else, I forget, I’m doing something in the dirty internals of the system and notice that I can see when programs are started and stopped and so forth. I kind of knew I could get that, but seeing it there in front of me made it so tempting.
